Ethics has never been
more important for organisations. Following the 2008 financial
crisis and numerous corporate scandals
in
the 2000s business has a way to go to improve its reputation
in society.
However ethics is still invariably treated as a
priority only when something goes wrong. Unethical practices
in the workplace can cause irreparable damage to individuals
and to the organisation. Reputation, morale, productivity, loyalty,
quality of work, the ability to attract the right employees and
customers and ultimately profitability are all at risk in an
organisation that does not operate to high ethical standards.
Despite these clear risks there is still not enough urgency placed
on the subject. Compared to, say, the attention that executives
give to the performance metrics of their organization, ethics
is definitely a poor relation.
Ethical issues occur are amongst some of the most
difficult that you are likely to have to deal with. The goal
of this website is to provide practical guidance, resources,
inspiration and a place to debate ethical issues.
